ACD Page: Arabica Lounge

Found this place 29/4/07
We loved this place, welcoming and was stylish and comfy. It had a nice mix of music and the vibe was great, as Arnie would say I'll be back.

The Arabica has become legendary for my mates. It was the first place we went on our first visit after I remembered going there with my parents the first time I was in Amsterdam. Ever since its been our first stop on visits and has developed into a tradition for me and my mates. Always friendly with a chilled atmosphere and great coffee. Definately my first stop in June! Very Happy

Arabica Lounge was relatively close to our hotel so we spent a lot of time relaxing here, enjoying the variety of cannabis on sale. The person behind the counter was very friendly and generous with the cannabis servings. Even if the order was .2 G over what we had asked for, he would only charge us for the amount we originally asked for. If I ever visit Amsterdam again, I'll be spending a lot of time in this shop.

It was a Sunday morning when Mrs. SH and I got off the trolley and walked back down the line to find Old Amsterdam, a WC, and a cup of tea. Alas, the highly recommended shop was closed, but I knew Arabica Lounge was just a few doors along. Still needing the WC and some hot tea we to AL to see what we would find.

We seem to have had a better reception than some other folks reported. A middle aged guy greeted us as soon as we walked in the door. I think they had a turnstile but they didn't hassle us, letting us get our coats and packs off at a table. While the Mrs. used the WC I went to the counter and ordered something decent from the high end of the menu and some tea. We weren't disappointed with the weed, though I made no note of what it was. It smelled and tasted good, and we were both pretty stoned by the time we finished the joint. There was a middle eastern guy in his late twenties, maybe, having a joint with his coffee and Sunday Paper. He opened a polite conversation about where we came from, how long we were in town, and how we were enjoying ourselves. He freely talked about his studies at UvA, the museums, and the shops. The bud-tender joined in at a couple of points, and it was all quite pleasant. Not a hint of politics or animosity raised their ugly heads.

When we were leaving we were asked to come again, and whether we needed any directions or help finding our way. Two older guys hanging at the front of the store also gave us a nod and a smile.

If I'm in the neighborhood, I'll stop in for a better cup of tea than you get from the machine at Old Amsterdam.

They had a nice cat, too. Always a good point.
