ACD Page: Double Reggae

I must say, this is the only coffeeshop that I went to that I would very much AVOID next time I'm in Amsterdam. It's pretty much at the beginning of Haarlemmerstraat, on the way from all the GOOD coffeeshops in this area to Dam Square. They had a deal for their so called "Purple Haze" 13 euros for 2g. Let me tell you, this weed was more like Brown Shit than Purple Haze. The only bag of weed that I got the entire time in Amsterdam that I just ended up throwing away. It smelled like dirt.. It wasnt even a bud, it was a bag of stems with bits of brown leaf attached. It had fucking SEEDS man...as far as weed is concerned, in Amsterdam, I should never come across a seed, unless I'm buying a pack of them. They weren't even playing any good reggae, they were playing some of the newer dancehall shite. (the pop dancehall crap from America) Also, the signs posted everywhere in this place suggesting that you "Don't Fuck Around" aren't very welcoming. Some other people seemed to have good luck with their weed I guess, but I will avoid this place at all costs.

We got a chuckle out of the sign you referred to (which actually says something to the effect of "No One Under 18 Allowed...And Don't Fuck Around," for which I can't possibly begin to blame them; the penalties for selling to underage consumers can, and does, include shutting down a shop entirely.)

But the seeds...that's an entirely different thing. Screw seedy weed.

Next time, ask to see the bag first. And as with any other consumer item, if you aren't satisfied with the product offered, you shouldn't feel compelled, in any way, to buy it (which is why I immediately adopted the practice of buying weed before drinks, in case I wanted to walk out in dissatisfaction, which I did on at least two occasions.)

Yeah, that sign, and I'm pretty sure I saw a few more hanging around displaying various rules with always a "..And Don't Fuck Around" at the end. Just a bit unwelcoming...
Funny thing, I did look at the weed, but they keep it so dark in there I couldn't really even tell it was that bad until I went and sat right next to a window and looked at it. It seems like the kinda place that's just there to take advantage of ignorant tourists.

My and a friend stopped in here on our first trip (2000). We were staying accross the street, so we figured we stop in. It was pretty dark and the bartender/budtender couldn't have cared less. I like reggae, but this place has NO rasta vibe.

I am so surprised to hear these reviews.
We sat outside (Queens day), so maybe we didn't pick up on negative vibes. We were only here for 1 drink and a joint but found it pleasant

I can see how some would not like this place. The staff are not especially friendly, but they're not rude either. I found it OK but the Mrs. loved it. Just bought pre-rolled here since I was sampling everything around and didn't feel like paying 15 euro for a lot of something I might hate. Nothing to write home about but I got a decent buzz.

I was headed out front to smoke a cig and the owner said I could smoke inside. Tobacco? I asked. He said sure it's OK. On the other hand the Green House told us to take our cigarette packs off the table and out of sight!

How come you didn't inspect the bag while you were buying it? Is it customary to smell and look at the weed before you buy it or do you have to just blindly accept what they give you? I'm asking because this is what I usually do in the States- not sure what the practice is in the Dam..

Can someone comment on my previous post? Would like to know the local customs when it comes to purchasing weed. Thanks... Cool

you SHOULD always ask to see the weed, because every batch can be different, so even if I always had the luck of a good batch of Blueberry, doesnt mean you cant get a bad batch, no dealer will be angry about it, and if he doesnt want to show you his products, then dont bother to buy anyway Smile

Exactly, unless you're in a pre-bagged shop. You'll see some people say stay away from (fill in the blank). If you like the atmosphere of the shop, it ain't gonna hurt to ask to see/smell the buds. Don't be afraid to say "no thanks"

I ask to see it even if it's pre-bagged, most shops will let you take a look.
